Poetry | Georgie Henley

common ground

story of nut: hard silk flesh,
little wood splinters into
clean teeth. it is known as
a fat but I taste nothing
soft except for the slick inside
of my lip, it is my own
fruit, and these simple things
which seemed so small
have now grown
a new skin within me
so now I am of forest
of forage of animal, the endless
rummage for protein
makes me drink in anything and
everything. remember the membrane.
we are all made from this same milk.
